My favorite time of the year, NHL hockey season, is almost upon us! HypSports hockey will launch next week, and this makes me beyond happy. Hockey is my number one love (aside from the wife and kids, of course). With that said, I would like to present to you my weekly HypSports NHL Report which I’m naming: The Good, The Great and The Ugly! This weekly blog will consist of three players, two you should consider for your lineup because they are good and great, and one that, in my humble opinion, you should avoid like the plague. So without further adieu, here we go!
It wouldn’t be an NHL season without a rookie being under the fantasy magnifying class. This season is no different. Enter Clayton Keller. The prospect will be running with the first line in Arizona. This can be big for both the Coyotes and your lineup. Keller was a contributor at Boston University with 21 goals and 24 assists in just 31 games. The Coyotes struggled offensively last year, but there’s a good chance that Keller may be a diamond in the rough.
I am going to probably get some grief for suggesting that a Maple Leaf is the first player to make my “great” list, but so be it. My pick for greatness for your lineup is Auston Matthews. Already picking up where he left off last year, Matthews recorded his first hattrick this year in a preseason game. The kid is magical and is a true point-getter. Coming off winning the Calder trophy and a 40 goal and 29 assist season, Matthews is a no-brainer to build a lineup around. If you can land Matthews you’re in for a big HypSports year!
This pick was rather easy for me, a guy I would avoid is Craig Smith with Nashville. Though the 28-year-old winger had a heck of a rookie season, it looks like the honeymoon is officially over. Struggling with only 12 goals in 78 games played last season, I feel that Smith may find himself in the AHL Milwaukee Admirals dressing room soon. If you are looking for an RW to contribute and earn you HypCash, he is too big a risk right now.
