Now that NHL hockey is here, I can almost feel the chill of the freshly laid ice. Not only is the NHL season ready to kick-off so is our HypSports hockey year. So, what better time for another installment of the Good, the Great and the Ugly where I tell you who I think is looking good, who is looking great and who to avoid adding to your HypSports lineup. Without further adieu, here we go!

The Good

Being a diehard Blackhawks fan I need to swallow my bias a bit; but I would be lying if I said you shouldn’t add Patrick Sharp to your lineup. The 35-year-old winger has landed back on the team he took to Stanley Cup glory. Don’t let his numbers fool you, I know only 18 points the entire year is nothing to write home about. The important thing to note is that Sharp’s lack of contribution was due to missing half the season for hip surgery. The good news is, he’s back and ready to play.

The Great

To no one’s surprise greatness can be found in Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn. Coming off a 69-point season, Benn is looking to hit the high 80s again this year. It also doesn’t hurt that he plays on the same line with goal-getter Tyler Seguin. It doesn’t hurt that he signed a huge extension for eight years and $75 million bucks. I believe this makes him rather happy, and a happy Benn is a productive one. Don’t think twice to sign Jamie Benn!

The Ugly

When talking about the ugly in the NHL one name comes to mind – Kevin Bieksa. Bieksa, the once noteworthy defender, has definitely lost his way in terms of productivity. Coming off another terrible year with only 11 points in 81 games, his stock is still dropping. This is the last year of the Bieksa contract and while I wouldn’t expect him to suit up in an NHL sweater next year, he does have some incentive to turn his game around. So maybe it’s not all bad. He does have a laser of a shot, but without some work on his end, that wouldn’t be enough to make him the mighty duck for your lineup.

So there is the list for this week. Next step is to sit back and enjoy the opening week. This year is promising for the NHL. I, like many, am excited it’s finally here and thrilled that HypSports has added it to the game!

Check back next week for the next installment of the Good, Great, and Ugly.
