When looking at football you would be pretty naive to think injuries are not part of the game. Unfortunately for some fantasy rosters this means trying to find replacements early on in the year. The 2017 year is no exception to this practice. With one week into the books, here are three replacement options for some key injuries that already have happened.
Bear Down, Again.
The injury bug has stung Chicago hard yet again for the second year. Coming into week one they already had a receiver down with the loss of Cam Meredith due to a torn ACL in the preseason, this new loss of Kevin White really hurt. The Bears are in big trouble on the offensive side of the ball. Here are two players I would immediately add to your HypSports lineup: Tarik Cohen and Zach Miller.. First, Tarik Cohen. This rookie RB is bound to touch the ball more and can probably be found rather easily in the early stages of your HypSports season. Secondly, look for TE Zach Miller to get targeted more now that he has moved up in the receiver food chain. The addition to either of these guys might earn you some points under the radar.
A Cardinal That Flew Away.
One of the worst parts of football is losing a marquee player early in the year. This was the case in week one for the Arizona Cardinals. David Johnson, the workhorse, went down with a wrist injury that requires surgery. Johnson is expected to miss at least 3 months leaving a huge hole in that backfield. So what do you do as a HypSports player? I would recommend looking now for Kerwynn Williams. Though there is currently a three-way battle for the starting spot, Williams has what the other two candidates don’t - a goal-line presence. Kerwynn is also someone you are likely to find early in you roster build. If you are looking for a guy to carry you along a bit until David Johnson’s return, look for Kerwynn Williams, you might get some consistent points.
Are the Colts out of Luck?
Though it really sucks to lose any players in an NFL season, there is something really cringe-worthy when it’s your QB. With Andrew Luck out and having no timetable for return, the offensive output in Indy is questionable. So who do you look for lineup wise? There are two trains of thought here. You can throw Jacoby Brissett into the lineup and gain some minor points. You can also use my recommendation and throw Frank Gore in your lineup. Gore is the better option due to the likelihood of running the ball becoming the year’s strategy. Don’t pass on veteran Gore, he might shake up your lineup and help you inch out some wins.
These are just a few guys to round out your lineup and have a setup that goes under the radar. These players can earn you some points until your get better roster options.
